The student team from ITS (Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember) and UI (Universitas Indonesia) have been successfully bring a glory for Indonesia in the RoboBoat International Contest 2016 at Virginia, United States.
At the event at 4-10 July, the ITS team become the 3rd winner while UI team successfully claim the 5th winner at the contest. Those teams can win the tournament after compete with other teams around the world. Here is the list of winners of the International Competition 2016 RoboBoat:

RoboBoat International Contest 2016
International RoboBoat Competition is a robot ship contest held by the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI). In this contest, each team have to design an autonomous robot vessels (unmanned) to sail through many obstacles. The behavior exhibited by this boat by imitating the task of the coastal surveillance which been developed, port security and other types of oceanographic operations.
This competition has been held for the 9th time since 2007 and become a prestigious event in the shipbuilding research, followed by a many countries in the world.
The competition consists of two stages of assessment, which were static judging and robot performance. Phase static judging consisted of several aspects such as academic writing, the quality of the material in the paper, the physical of Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV), team’s video, website, social media, academic oral presentation, robot inspection and team interviews. While on stage performance of the robot, each team demonstrated the ability of their robot program on the fields.

“We are grateful that we have achieved this milestone, which has been fit with our target to be in the top three in this competition, “said Darwin Setyawan, team leader of Barunastra ITS.
The Barunastra team success could not be separated from their ship design, which were the design of the hull with a length of 110 cm, width 50 cm and height of the hull 14 cm with in a weight of 10 kg with the Catamaran type. The advantages of this ship is its stability and low movement resistance and the agile maneuver.
Moreover, in the electronic system of the ship used Android smartphone technology as a GPS sensor and image processing, and the main control using micro-controller STM34F4. Plus SRF04 Ultrasonic proximity sensor and a sensor for detecting frequency hydrophones under the water. With our entire electronic system is more complex and fast data processing speed, the ship was able to advance quickly and accurately.
Makara, RoboBoat Team UI
The success of UI team can not be separated from their vessel reliability. Multi hull trimaran design with dimensions of 120 cm x 60 cm x 120 cm and its material was roping and fiber composites for the body section of the ship, this ship has a lot of advantages in terms of stability and maneuverability.
The vessel is also equipped with some components, such as batteries, speed controller, GPS, Wi-Fi, converter, camera, fan, and a controller. This ship is managed through four missions, which met criteria meet by the committee, then drove on the track which is provided using image processing, docking, and finding a location signal transmitter.
This proud achievement once again demonstrated that Indonesian youth can compete and win the contest in the world level, after Indonesia UPI Students also won the World Sports Car Champion Shell Eco Marathon. Hopefully this achievement can trigger spirit to all youth comrades to continue their hard working.
